Welcome

Welcome to Happenings at Bennett Street Gallery - our new blog!
Here we will share the latest news on what is going at Bennett Street Gallery as well as latest news related to our artists. It will also serve as an interactive way for you to share comments, ideas, and feedback about what is going on at Bennett Street Gallery.

Gallery Renovation Complete!
As many of you may know, this summer was very busy here at the gallery as we underwent a complete renovation of the gallery's interior space. We could not be more happy about our "new look". If you haven't stopped in the gallery in a while, now would be the perfect time.

In addition to new walls and a fresh coat paint, Bennett Street Gallery has recently added 20 new artists to our large stable of emerging and established artists. Each of the new artists is an innovator in their chosen media or genre and many (such as Kelly Kievit and Laura Schiff Bean) have never shown their artwork in the South before now.

The Temptation of Abstraction - October 8-31
October 24th Wine and Cheese pairing at the gallery featuring wines from South Africa.
In this show, Bennett Street Gallery explores t
he relevance of abstraction in the process of the contemporary painter. Hidden meanings and obscured imagery float through the works of Jen Bradley and Kelly Kievit. While Sandra Pratt, Tracy Lynn Pristas, and Jennifer Morgan shape their subjects into abstracted landscapes by working the paint so thickly that it is merely an illusion or layering so thin that a transparent film deceives the eye into the depths of field. Also noteworthy are the recent works by Laura Schiff Bean, a new artist at Bennett Street Gallery, who represents the human condition and how it relates to the clothed self through dramatic feminine imagery. Local favorite, Kenson will also be exhibiting new works wherein she continues to push the envelope with evocative color and subject matter while tantalizing the viewer to crave her meanings and symbolism.
